Young Turkish DJ and singer, Ahu Kelesiglu is focusing more on her solo work now. Her latest release, To:Love (produced by Paul White) is a captivating one. One of those songs that takes you over entirely and gives you goosebumps all over. The song is about the “calm and freedom felt by lovers after they split” (via moovmnt). Ahu is inspired by golden-age jazz singers, European film soundtracks, electronica, house, and much more.

Fall is coming, and Ahu mixes are so great in the Fall. Looking forward to watching orange leaves fall as I bump to this and this.

“For anyone interested in geometry, this book is a must have. Not familiar with the name Euclid nor the images on the cover of the book? Here’s some context: Oliver Byrne (c. 1810–c. 1880) translated the theorems of Greek mathematician Euclid (aka the “Father of Geometry”) into colorful diagrams and figures in order to make learning easier. Considering the distinct Mondrian feel you get while examining the pages, it’s remarkable that Byrne created the original edition of Euclid in 1847.”

Their mission statement says it all, “Radiolab believes your ears are a portal to another world. Where sound illuminates ideas, and the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience. Big questions are investigated, tinkered with, and encouraged to grow. Bring your curiosity, and we’ll feed it with possibility.”

This short is so amazing. I can’t stop watching it. It makes me smile every time. Enjoy!

“Words have the power to shape the way we think and feel. In this stunning video, filmmakers Will Hoffman and Daniel Mercadantebandy visual wordplay into a moving exploration of language set to an original score by Keith Kenniff.”

So bad things always happen in threes… here is my list so far in the past weekend:

1. “misplaced” my camera during my hectic move to my new apartment. (I’m saying misplaced for now… I’m not giving up!)

2. A classic New York bike crash by South Street Seaport. My front wheel and handle bar is all bent up. (It’s at the shop now.)

3. Dads old sunglasses fell out of my shirt pocket as I chased a cab with my broken bike and cracked the frame. (In need of some careful super-gluing..)

So, I had to make up for these 3 bad things with somewhat equal or greater things - to balance my life…

1. Watched movies all day Sunday and realized that this could be a possible sign to pause on capturing things with photos, and to get back into writing, drawing, and painting. Life seems to be challenging me a bit more each day.

2. Cooked my favorite pasta dish with amazing cheese and wine. (mmmm….)

3. I just got back from the Sneak preview screening for Fatih Akin’s new film, Soul Kitchen, with a special Director Q&A @ 92YTribeca. (His “break” film. A much light-hearted turn from what he usually produces, but the movie carried a smile on my face till the end.) One of the best things about being in New York, is the access to these kind of things. You feel so close to the art that is produced for the rest of the world to see.

Some things that Mr. Akin talked about:

- about concrete, and how streets brings diversity to places. So true. Urban cities is where compacted culture exists.

- the restaurant industry is very much like the film industry.

- “Charlie Chaplin said something like, ‘Keep Smiling’…” (The actual quote I think he’s talking about was, ‘A day without laughter, is a day wasted’)

Some things that I thought about after:

- Tribeca is such a beautiful part of Manhattan.

- I want to be sitting in the Directors chair one day and do Q&A’s after my screenings.

- Write! Write! Write!

- …
